Liability & Agreements

This page is a plain-language summary, not a waiver, a contract or legal advice. The written agreements and the statutory Texas equine activity language are handled separately, in writing, before any horse arrives or any lesson takes place.

Horses carry inherent risk

Working with horses involves risk that cannot be eliminated by care, skill or experience. Horses can react unpredictably to sound, movement, other animals and unfamiliar objects. Everyone who rides, handles or is around horses at Glosson Livestock does so with that understanding.

Texas law limits the liability of equine professionals for injuries resulting from the inherent risks of equine activity, subject to conditions set out in the statute.

Before a horse enters training

A written training agreement is signed before any horse begins the program. It covers ownership and authority to train, the rate and minimum commitment, payment terms, what is included and what is billed separately, emergency veterinary authority, health and vaccination requirements including a negative Coggins, disclosure of known behavior or health issues, insurance, termination, and photo and video permission.

Before a lesson

A signed release and lesson agreement is required before a lesson takes place. For a rider under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign.
