About
Monte Glosson
Lifelong Texan. The operation behind Glosson Livestock in Eastland, Texas.
Monte Glosson has lived in Texas his whole life and has spent years around performance horses — learning from and riding with horsemen he respects, and putting in the miles that horsemanship actually requires.
What he keeps coming back to is starting horses and putting a handle on them — watching one go from knowing nothing to carrying itself with confidence. He believes his strength is putting an excellent handle and a correct foundation on a horse — colt starts, late starts, and finishing — the unglamorous work that determines what a horse is worth later.
For years, Glosson Livestock has bred, raised, started and developed its own performance prospects — breeding decisions, foals on the ground, the first ride, the first cow. The horses we raise come through mares like Savannah Blue Rey, Sheaz Dulin CD and SP Hotify. That is the kind of horse this program is built on.
Your prospect gets treated like one of ours, because for a long time ours were the only ones we took. We know what an owner has in a young horse before it ever reaches a trainer’s barn: the breeding decision, the vet bills, the years of feed, the hoping. When your prospect steps off the trailer, nobody here has to imagine what it cost you to get it this far.
Glosson Livestock is now taking a limited number of outside horses. Limited on purpose — the work only stays good if there is time to do it.
Monte is a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.
Approach
Build the foundation first. Let the horse tell you when it is ready for the next thing. Be honest with the owner about what you are seeing — including when the honest answer is that the horse needs something we are not the right barn to give it.
